The criminal erased all of my data and used it on his own computer for his files on a PC (which the police erased before giving it back to me).

I can read whats left on the drive as police only erased the criminals pics etc.

It looks as though he might have reformatted it to work with his PC Ive googled this and cant find answers to figure out how to fix this and format it back to accept my MAC files.

It probably says, My Passport This does not sound as though it is a new purchase so there could have been the possibility that you did have a Time Machine backup when you were using the hard drive that failed.

To avoid that problem again, open System Preferences and go to Time Machine.

That done, return to the first window you had open and make sure that Backup Automatically and Show Time Machine in menu bar are both checked.

Close the System Preferences window and from that point on, TM will backup ALL your stuff every hour, without any input from you.

What have I done wrong Passport is connected to my MacBook but it does not show when I use Spotlight to try to fid it.

In poking around, I found that the Passport thing had been disconnected.

Which one do I choose and do I want to check the Encrypt backups I dont remember setting this up but that doesnt mean anything.

Ignore the Other Airport Time Capsule, you do not have one of those and do not encrypt backups.

Is this what I have been hoping for And if so, what now You guys are the absolute BEST.

I noticed that Time Machine backed up almost immediately when I turned it back on this morning.
